That said I kinda understand. So go play something else for a while and see if you miss it, I know I did and will do once something worth playing is released.

As already stated - it`s just a game, not a job, you don`t have to play it. It`s just something to do if you enjoy it, if you don`t then stop and try something else.

Btw I think the HoM is a cool idea, at least it`s something and much better than nothing, whatever the something might be.
Because it was for fun and I didn't know 2 would be released and everything we do on GW will count for nothing other than a pretty HoM display.. Because now I know I will go over to GW2 and forget about it if it lives up to it's hyped up self already that ANet blags about what it's going to feature... But I want to keep playing GW1 with a sense of accomplimshment and with something to do, something that is fun...

I didn't say that? I said the exact opposite..

People say X, Y and Z but will do the opposite.. People say they will keep playing GW1 and ignore GW2, but I can probably guarantee that they will just say they will 'give it a go', then they will get hooked and forget about GW1. It's human nature, there in denial at first and want to act all this and that, playing the elitist veteran...

That's my point proven, never knew 2 was going to be released - quite happy and content with GW1, but knowing they will stop updating it and adding anything major to it now when 2 is released, it's gonna be a bit naff...

Thankyou, I don't "hate" playing, I do enjoy playing to an extent and you read my post in a more depth and thought a bit more than the majority who did and just thought it was flame bait. Attaining the achievements in a fun manner would be great, and more of them, than just the few at the moment...

Exactly.. People are in denial, you will eventually by GW2 is released become bored because ArenaNet won't release anymore major updates to keep you entertained, you won't have anything fun to play for unless your a PvP/GvG fanatic and can keep up with that all the time...

I see no waste.....
Wow.. Getting the same titles on a buncha characters? How tedious and boring would that be? Completing the same game about 8-16 times repeatedly and exploring every milimetre of the world, or capturing different profession elites.. For what? I feel no sense of accomplishment, it isn't really rewarding.. ArenaNet need to make more events/activities/locations were you can do something and feel a sense of accomplimshment, were it's fun - and if there is rewards - that there something good.. You actually 'get' something from it, if anything is needed in the first place! If it's fun, I don't expect a reward...

My point is, do not think about the future, take one step at a time. Stop worrying about a second part you do not have, live the one that you have.
This is another type of the expected posts I was wanting to help encourage and give me another way of thinking about it all.. Very helpful, and yes that is my point - I didn't know there was going to be a second Guild Wars when I got the game when it was released because I thought I'd be going for more than 2/3'ish years..

Yeah, you can say 2/3 years of fun was worth it - of course it was, but I want to keep playing that same game.. Yeah every game has it's ends, but GW1 has so much potential, ANet just can't be bothered to try 'fix' it or do anything about it.. So what do they do instead? F* it. Let's revamp the whole game, GUILD WARS 2!..

they said the present game engine *would not allow* them to make the huge improvements they wanted to make.

very big difference

and so called meaning?

i play for the fun of it not to impress other onscreen pixils with what i have *accomplished*

Sort of the same situation here.
I was thinking of getting additional character slots to play around with some new characters. Then GW2 was announced - and from that moment on I figured 10 slots is more then enough. If I want to play something new - I just delete an old character.
With the announcement of GW2 - GW just got hit with a very real expiry date. One knows that one will not be able to transfer the characters to GW2 - so it makes little sense to even keep them around if they are just taking up space.
Plus it made me change my mind about getting GWEN. I still have fun in the 3 chapters - so getting it just feels like wasting the 40€.

Question:

Whats the difference to the customer between a new Chapter for Guild Wars, or a whole new Guild Wars 2?

If you want an auction house, jumping, swimming, new races, etc., then why won't you like GW2?

I think that there is already an awful lot to do in GW. Especially considering how friendly the game is toward creating alts.

Also, it does sound like it's time for a break. I find that if a take a couple weeks away and play Halo, or I don't know - go outside, that the game feels fresh and fun again.

Bollocks. It's an excuse so you don't complain about them revamping the game basically, the Guild Wars engine is very capable, we've seen the things it can do.. If there only revamping the game for graphics, so be it..

I really am not too fussed but I'm personally, highly convinced they just can't be bothered to fix and play with the current GW1.

As for the fun part of not playing to impress etc.. Where the hell did you get that idea from? Impress other onscreen pixels? No, no.. I barely play with other players other than helping guildies out.. PUGs are a buncha idiots, I have no one to impress, I just wanted something that would 'benefit', or something 'fun'. Stop taking things out of context and re-wording them to your own liking as flame bait.

That's all this forum has become, flame baits.. Everyone is addicted to flaming, wish the GWG community was how it used to be too.. Young, curious and inexperienced (because we were all new!) Guild Wars players still adventuring the lands of the GW world.. Happily discussing how the game is, and what it's like, some nice new builds...

But yeah; overall I'm not dissing the idea of Guild Wars 2, in a way I personally am looking forward too and I'm sure I'll love it, just impatient I guess as I want to get going.. Just feels playing GW1 won't do much for me, even for a fun manner, what is there..?

Yeah, that's some more fair points proven - it doesn't feel like it's worth it does it..?

I never said I wouldn't like GW2? Infact I'm whole-heartedly looking forward to playing Guild Wars 2 and I can't wait! What I'm saying is if you can read; is that I just want something more fun to do within GW and feel it'll be wasted if ArenaNet just completely abandon GW1 and don't release anything new, fun or a major event/location to keep it interesting.

Also, the way you just described GW2, 'auction house, jumping, swimming, new races, etc'.. Why not just say; WELCOME TO WOW!

I played GW for a year and half when it came out.. Had almost a year break on and off, becoming less and less things that are fun and interesting to do.. I haven't played properly for way too long now...

What I don't get about this sort of thread.. and sorry OP, not trying to pick on you here, but why is it pointless to play if you can't drag all your characters, titles, and possessions to GW2? What I'm getting at is that, for instance, Starcraft 2 is in the making, but does that have any real bearing on the people that are still enjoying the original SC? I'd think not. Sure this is a rpg, but it's still the same sort of concept. Why does the knowledge that a sequel is coming out in the future make playing the original any less fun than it was before when the sequel is still years away?

Guild Wars does not gain immunity from the fate of other games, where it will be over shadowed by newer games that will better draw in the consumers.

On that note, I don't see how playing a game can be pointless because a new one will come out. I fail to see how it wasn't as pointless in the first place as you take no more gain from it even before a sequal is announced..
